The 2025 Gwangju Design Biennale, which will be held for the 11th time this year, will feature the main exhibition, international symposiums, and Gwangju subway design projects under the theme of "Inclusive Design," titled "A World Called You: How Does Design Embrace Humanity?".
This year’s Gwangju Design Biennale will be held in the second half of this year. The Gwangju Biennale Foundation will hold a board meeting on the 20th to finalize the opening date.
During the 2025 Gwangju Design Biennale Master Plan Briefing held at the Korea Press Center in Seoul, General Director Choi Soo-shin (Professor at SCAD, USA) stated, “Inclusive design allows us to see from everyone's perspective. The 2025 Gwangju Design Biennale starts with the question: ‘How can design, as naturally integrated into our lives as water and air, create an environment where we all shine, feel excited, and live stylishly? Can design positively impact every being in the world?’”
The 2025 Gwangju Design Biennale will feature four curated exhibitions: ▲ Hall 1 – Inclusive Design & The World ▲ Hall 2 – Inclusive Design & Life ▲ Hall 3 – Inclusive Design & Mobility ▲ Hall 4 – Inclusive Design & The Future.
In addition to the main exhibition, this year's Gwangju Design Biennale will consist of various related programs and projects in the Gwangju area through international symposiums, Gwangju subway design projects, and 72-hour design challenges.
In particular, the Gwangju Subway Design Project proposes a subway station that transforms into an inclusive design in cooperation with students learning design in Gwangju. The 72-hour design challenge will bring together university students from domestic and foreign design departments in Gwangju to develop a concept that will change our environment in an inclusive manner.
Gwangju, which was isolated for 80 years, has become a shining city that symbolizes the value of democracy and inclusion thanks to peace lovers and democracy lovers around the world, said Kang Ki-jung, Mayor of Gwangju City. "The 2025 Gwangju Design Biennale will be a place where we will showcase inclusive design that creates a world where we can all live brightly and excitedly, embrace each other's differences and differences, and embrace each other once again."
The "2025 Gwangju Design Biennale" will complete the development of EIP (Event Identity Program, visualization of event concepts such as posters and logos) symbol by May, start pre-sale of tickets in June, prepare for the exhibition in July and August, and start a 65-day run with the opening ceremony in the second half of this year.
