Sports Legacy Expert Committee held on Wednesday the 26th to advise on legacy programs

The Organizing Committee for the 2027 Chungcheong Universiade (Chairperson Kang Chang-hee, hereinafter referred to as the Organizing Committee) held the "Sports Legacy Expert Committee" meeting on Wednesday, the 26th, in the committee’s main conference room. The purpose was to share the current progress of the event's legacy programs and explore directions for the sustainable development of the sports industry.

The core concept of a "sports legacy" is to ensure that international sports events have a long-term positive impact beyond the hosting of competitions, benefiting both the local community and the broader sports industry.

The meeting was attended by Vice Chairperson Lee Chang-seop and around ten experts on sports legacy. They shared updates on the implementation of key legacy programs and received advice from the expert committee.

The key discussion items included ▲ the operation of a Healthy Campus program to promote the health and well-being of university and local community members, ▲ the creation of educational content such as explanatory videos on each sport for middle and high school students, ▲ the hosting of an international academic conference during the event where university students and sports researchers would participate to discuss the future of sports, ▲ the training of volunteer personnel, ▲ the development of post-event utilization plans for sports venues, ▲ the operation of the university student supporter group (Uni-Crew), and ▲ the advancement of the legacy development of the event mascots (Heung-i and Nayu).

Participants agreed to prioritize building sports infrastructure that remains useful after the event. They committed to preparing effective post-use plans for the venues, nurturing volunteers, and operating programs for university students to create a sustainable sports environment for future generations.

Vice Chairperson Lee Chang-seop stated, “Legacy programs that continue to have a positive impact on local communities and the sports industry even after the event are essential,” adding, “Through this expert committee, we will establish more concrete and feasible plans.”

The 2027 Chungcheong Universiade is a sports festival for university students around the world and will be held in four cities and provinces (Daejeon, Sejong, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Chungcheongnam-do) in the Chungcheong area for 12 days from August 1 to 12, 2027, with 15,000 people from 150 countries around the world participating in 18 events.
