Seoul Opens a New Chapter of Diversity in the Global City and Modest Fashion.

On February 18, 2025, the '2025 Seoul Modest Fashion Festival' took place at the Seoul DDP Fashion Mall. Fashion designers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Belgium, and Korea participated in the event, showcasing sophisticated modest fashion. Models of various races and nationalities walked the runway, presenting these designs. Notably, recycled fashion, reflecting ideas of sustainable fashion, stood out.

The '2025 Seoul Modest Fashion Show' was made possible through the dedication of Mr. Jinwoo Kim, President of the Overseas Korean Economic Cooperative (OK-Networks), and Mr. Muhammad Sufi Bin Roszallee from Halal Korea, Singapore.

To support the event, the Dongdaemun Global Business Cooperation Group invited marketing expert Mr. Deahoon Kang for a special lecture on 'Rebranding and Marketing of Dongdaemun Market' on May 23, 2024. Mr. Kang mentioned that for Seoul and Dongdaemun to become Asia's fashion hub, it is essential to focus on trends where luxury brands such as Uniqlo, Dolce & Gabbana, and MaxMara target the Muslim market. He also suggested establishing a permanent fashion show for buyers.

Attendees included Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Nazarudin Ja'afar, Trade Commissioner Ms. Leany Mokhtar, and First Secretary Miss Nadiyah Hanim Munir from the Malaysian Embassy. Representatives from the design industry, including Mr. Mohd Zaidi bin Ahmad Yusoff, Manager of the Creative Design Centre (CDeC), Mr. Mohd Firdaus bin Mohd Nor, Deputy Director of Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic, and Mdm Suhaila binti Basar, Head of Corporate Industrial Service & Employability Centre (CISEC), were present. Representatives from the Indonesian and Belgian Embassies in Korea also attended.

"Additionally, this event was supported and collaborated by the Islamic Fashion Institute of Indonesia. Participants included General Manager Mdm Hanni Haerani, Fashion Designer Dede Ananta, and Fashion Designer Yufie Kartaatmaja."

Prominent figures from the Korean fashion industry, including Mr. Soonsik Jeong, President of the Daegu Gyeongbuk Fashion Business Cooperative, Mr. Jungwoo Lee, President of the Seoul Fashion Cooperative Brand Business Cooperative, and Mr. Seoyoung Kim, President of G-Coord, were present. Mr. Taejoo Woo, President of the Fashion K-Hallyu Business Cooperative, expressed his hope that the modest fashion show would enhance Dongdaemun's fashion and cultural capabilities, promoting happiness through beauty.

Mr. Husaini Ismail from the Korea Halal Industry Association expressed his excitement over the beautiful modest fashion show made possible through the collaboration of designers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Belgium, and Korea. He emphasized the importance of Seoul's cooperation in such events that contribute to urban diversity. Mr. Jinwoo Kim mentioned his expectation for participation from leading Korean fashion groups such as E-Land, LF, Cheil Industries, Hyungji, Shinsegae, and CJ in the upcoming '2026 Modest Fashion Festival.'

The Modest Fashion Festival Organizing Committee plans to hold future events not only in Seoul but also in Busan and Incheon, which are emerging as leading MICE cities in Asia, to promote friendship and solidarity with Middle Eastern countries.
