Cheongju City recently appointed comedian Choi Jae-won (38), who has gained great popularity with Instagram Reels (short videos) featuring Cheongju, as a city ambassador on the 10th.

The appointment ceremony was held that afternoon at the temporary city hall in Jikji Room, attended by Choi Jae-won and Lee Beom-seok, the mayor of Cheongju.
Choi will serve as a city ambassador for two years, participating in the production of video content and promoting Cheongju both domestically and internationally.
Born and raised in Cheongju, Choi is a comedian and online content creator. He debuted as a comedian with the 29th class of KBS open recruitment in 2015, appearing in segments like "Dallas," "Viewer Opinions," and "Sweet Potato" on the show Gag Concert (KBS 2TV).
Recently, he has been actively engaged online through platforms like YouTube and Twitch. He has gained popularity by creating entertaining videos on topics related to Cheongju, such as Jikji, local restaurants, and the Chungcheong dialect.
Lee Beom-seok(이범석), the mayor of Cheongju, expressed his expectations, saying, "As an ambassador who knows Cheongju well, I hope he promotes Cheongju in a more fun and new way, breaking away from formal frameworks."
With Choi Jae-won's appointment, Cheongju now has a total of 11 ambassadors, including 6 singers, 3 YouTubers, 1 MC, and 1 comedian. They promote the city's major festivals and events on social media, perform at various events, and actively participate in city promotion activities such as lectures and donations.
