Hyundai(현대차) Unveils Hyundai Translocal Series: Enhancing Art Collaboration Beyond Borders

The first exhibition will see the 2025 Cheongju Craft Biennale(청주공예비엔날레) collaborating with the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, UK, and the National Museum of Crafts in New Delhi, India, under the theme of "Textile Craft and Community." This exhibition will be showcased at the special exhibition of the Cheongju Craft Biennale opening on September 4, continuing to the National Museum of Crafts in India in February, and to the Whitworth Art Gallery in July of the following year.

Hyundai Motor Company has launched a new project called the "Hyundai Translocal Series" to support international collaboration and joint exhibitions among domestic and international art institutions. This initiative aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the Korean art ecosystem.

For the next 10 years, Hyundai will comprehensively support research, new commissions, exhibitions, and related programs to establish continuous collaboration among various institutions.

Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Euisun Chung stated, "Through the Hyundai Translocal Series, we aim to contribute to the activation of local art for the sustainable development of the Korean art ecosystem, and to support institutions participating in new artistic practices from various perspectives, creating a platform for translocal collaboration."

The series will go beyond simple touring exhibitions, being planned to encompass the local specificity and translocal values of each institution.The first exhibition will see the 2025 Cheongju Craft Biennale collaborating with the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, UK, and the National Museum of Crafts in New Delhi, India, under the theme of "Textile Craft and Community." This exhibition will be showcased at the special exhibition of the Cheongju Craft Biennale opening on September 4, continuing to the National Museum of Crafts in India in February, and to the Whitworth Art Gallery in July of the following year.

Cheongju Craft Biennale Artistic Director Kang Jae-young and Whitworth Art Gallery Director Lee Sook-kyung stated, "This groundbreaking project will celebrate the rich heritage and innovative spirit shared by the three cities, showcasing a passion for craftsmanship and contemporary interpretations and visions of textile art, and broadly demonstrating interconnected narratives."

The second exchange institution will be the Nam June Paik Art Center in Yongin, South Korea, and the Pinacoteca de São Paulo in Brazil, under the theme of "Media and Performance." These two institutions will start preliminary research and forum events in April and May, and will sequentially present joint planned exhibitions from October of the following year.

Nam June Paik Art Center Director Park Nam-hee and Pinacoteca de São Paulo Director Jochen Volz stated, "The two museums located on the opposite sides of the world will unite under the spirit of Nam June Paik, who envisioned a space that transcends time and space through the combination of art and technology."
