Buyeo County (Mayor Park Jung-hyun) has been actively working to address labor shortages in rural areas caused by a lack of workforce and aging population since the introduction of foreign seasonal workers in 2022.
According to county officials, Buyeo has brought in 132 foreign seasonal workers from the Philippines this year. Additionally, between September and October, the county signed memorandums of understanding with Uzbekistan and Vietnam for the introduction of foreign seasonal workers. This initiative paves the way for the inclusion of workers from diverse nations, which is expected to ensure a stable and timely labor supply.
To secure agricultural labor for next year, Buyeo County is conducting a demand survey for seasonal workers until October 25. The survey will categorize workers into two groups: those linked through business agreements and those invited by relatives of marriage immigrants.
The business agreements will facilitate direct connections between farmers and public sectors, such as agricultural cooperatives, while the relative invitations will allow local marriage immigrants to bring in relatives as potential employees.
Mayor Park Jung-hyun stated, “The issue of labor shortages directly impacts agricultural productivity. We aim to create a foundation that supports the agricultural field by introducing foreign workers from various countries.” He also emphasized the county’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with multiple nations to ensure a smooth supply of workers in the future.
Through this demand survey, Buyeo County plans to develop a more systematic labor management strategy to enhance productivity in the agricultural sector.
