Daejeon City announced that it had invited all local government delegations and city officials from around the world to the UCLG World Congress to be held in Daejeon in October at the World Urban Forum (WUF11) in Katowice, Poland.
At the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments session held on the afternoon of the 26th local time, Ambassador Lee Hyung-jong, representing Daejeon City, spoke on ▲ the importance of local government in the midst of a pandemic, ▲ setting a new urban agenda for local governments in the post-corona era,
with ▲ an invitation to the 2022 Daejeon UCLG General Assembly for various discussions on 'Pact for the Future of Humanity', which is emphasized at the UCLG level, and concluded by ▲ introducing ‘Daejeon Track’, the official program of the General Assembly, focusing on sustainable development, innovation, science, and technology.
The city delegations from all over the world who attended this event showed deep interest in Korean culture and art, which people around the world are passionate about, and also showed great interest in the Daejeon UCLG General Assembly to be held in October.
Prior to this, on the morning of the 26th, I had a meeting with the mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen, who currently serves as the co-chair of UCLG, and requested to participate as a speaker at the Daejeon Track, the official program of the UCLG General Assembly in Daejeon 2022. He asked for efforts so that many UCLG members can participate.
Emilia Saiz, Secretary-General of the UCLG World Secretariat, said to the 200 international organizations, heads of local governments, and city experts who participated in this session, “UCLG and Daejeon are working together to make the 7th UCLG General Assembly the best one ever. We are preparing with all our might,” he said. “I hope that everyone here will meet again in Daejeon this October.”
A Daejeon city official said, “We are operating a global joint publicity exhibition booth by jointly participating in the URBAN EXPO, a special program of the World Cities Forum, for 5 days from the 26th to the 30th, when the forum will be held with the UCLG World Secretariat." He added, “It will be a good opportunity to inform the world of the Daejeon UCLG World Congress to be held in October and invite delegations of local governments and city officials from each country to Daejeon."
Meanwhile, the 'World Urban Forum' is the world's most prestigious urban forum held by UN-HABITAT every other year. It is a forum that attracts international attention.
The 11th World Cities Forum was held from June 26 to June 30 in Katowice, Poland with the theme of 'Transforming our Cities for a Better Urban Future'. It is expected that more than 10,000 participants have already registered before the pre-registration deadline.
