The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 17th that they have finalized the selection of 10 'potential small tourism destinations' for 2025.
The newly selected places this year are ▲ Gimpo Hamsang Park in Gyeonggi Province ▲ Rainbow Healing Tourist Site in Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do ▲ Myeoncheonupseong Fortress in Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do ▲ Sani Garden in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do ▲ Sunchang Fermentation Theme Park in Jeollabuk-do ▲ Otgol Village in Dong-gu, Daegu ▲ Hoengseong Lake Trail Section 5 in Gangwon-do.
Among last year's potential tourist attractions, three places, Dadaepo Beach Park in Saha-gu, Busan; Mujinjeong Pavilion in Haman-gun, Gyeongnam, and Seongan Ole in Jeju-si, Jeju-do, were selected as targets for continued support this year.
The project, jointly promoted by the Korea Tourism Organization and local governments since 2019, aims to discover and foster local tourist destinations with low recognition but high growth potential. The Korea Tourism Organization uses big data to analyze the current status of these potential tourist destinations and provides customized consulting. Additionally, it supports promotional marketing in connection with domestic tourism campaigns such as "Travel Month” and the "Digital Tourist Resident Card".
The Namwon City Kim Byeong-jong Art Museum in Jeollabuk-do, selected last year, introduced various promotions, including developing tourism products such as Namwon Stay and the Three-Color Local Art Tour in connection with the Korea Tourism Organization's "Digital Tourist Resident Card" project. As a result, the number of visitors increased by more than 2.2 times compared to 2023. Additionally, Mujinjeong has regularized the "Nakhwa Nori" event, attracting nearly twice as many tourists to Haman Mujinjeong compared to the previous year, and for the first time, Haman County attracted a group of 400 Japanese tourists.
Lee Sang-min, the Director of National Tourism at the Korea Tourism Organization, stated, "There are many hidden gems that are not yet widely known. The Korea Tourism Organization will continue to provide extensive support to discover and develop unique local tourism resources, so they can become representative local content of Korea."
