The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of the Cultural Heritage Administration on March 31 said that from April 1, a revised regulation on admission to such venues takes effect to allow free admission by foreign visitors aged 18 or under.
The latest revision extends free admission for foreign nationals 18 or under, up from age 6.
Koreans up to age 24 can get free admission.
Entry is also free for both Korean and non-Koreans aged 65 or older.
The center said, "We decided to revise the rule after considering changes in social structure as more non-Koreans live in the country through international marriage and the influx of foreign workers as well as the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child."
In France, the Palace of Versailles and the Louvre Museum allow free entry for ages 18 or under.
Buckingham Palace in London offers free admission for ages 4 or younger and the Alhambra palace and fortress complex in Spain 11 or under.
