Jinwoo Kim, CEO of Halal Korea, is a pioneer in introducing the halal industry to South Korea. He has been instrumental in targeting the Muslim market, collaborating with various organizations to promote tourism and fashion industries tailored to Muslim consumers. Kim also serves as the chairman of the Overseas Korean Economic Cooperative (0k-networks) and works closely with multiple institutions, including the Dongdaemun Garment Sewing Association, Seoul Brand Business Cooperative, WalkintoKorea, and JS GLOBAL.
Recently, Kim spearheaded the launch of the ‘Dongdaemun Market Global Business Group’ on July 26, 2024, at the DDP FASHION MALL. The primary goal of this initiative is to transform Dongdaemun Fashion Town into an international fashion hub by fostering collaborations between foreign fashion designers and local businesses. By utilizing domestic textile and sewing materials, the group aims to create job opportunities, support small businesses, and develop joint brands for export.
The Dongdaemun Global Business Group has secured a 100-pyeong space to facilitate these efforts. They plan to establish a network of collaboration between foreign fashion design, marketing, and international business majors residing in Korea and local fashion and beauty design companies in Seoul. This initiative will also support continuous startup matching projects to explore export channels for Dongdaemun products.
Kim envisions attracting Malaysia’s design house to Dongdaemun, leveraging the open and Muslim-friendly environment of Malaysia to jointly enter the global market. This strategic move aims to address the shortage of specialized personnel and develop fashion design patterns for Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia, fostering international business ventures.
These efforts are expected to significantly boost Korea’s fashion and beauty design industries, with a goal to capture 2% of the global modest fashion market, valued at $60 billion, within the next two years.
