From February 26 to 28, in response to the government's green industry overseas expansion policy, K-Water (CEO Yoon Seok-dae 윤석대) expanded cooperation in the water field with the Laos Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Mekong River Commission, and the Laos National Assembly in Laos.
The Mekong River basin, which is used as a water source by four countries downstream of the Mekong River, including Laos, is facing various water problems such as drought due to recent climate change. To solve water problems, the countries have established and are operating the Mekong River Committee. Since 2019, they have been cooperating with K-Water with a water resource data utilization business agreement.
As part of a solution to water problems in the Mekong River basin, K-Water plans to establish a comprehensive water resources development plan and jointly pursue a digital decision support system development project with the U.S. Agency for International Development. On the 27th., Ahn Jung-ho, head of the Green Infrastructure Division at K-Water, discussed cooperation with the chairman of the Mekong River Committee about some plans to conclude multilateral business agreements, to smoothly promote the project.
Ahn Jung-ho stated his expression, “K-Water is providing solutions to water problems in the Mekong region, including Laos, through various cooperative projects to respond to the climate crisis. This includes the establishment of a comprehensive water resources development plan in the Mekong region. We will do our best to expand the overseas expansion of domestic green industries by actively supporting various cooperative projects”.
