Discussed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and UN-SDGs
Heightened interests in sustainable tourism experiences in Ikseon-dong, Seongsu-dong, and Bukhansan Mountain
Seoul, the global MICE city representing the Asia-Pacific region, successfully concluded the 10th UIA Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting, which took place from October 11 to 13 at Lotte Hotel Seoul and throughout the city of Seoul. The event drew participation from over 200 individuals representing 54 organizations, including international associations, societies, and convention bureaus from 13 countries and 31 cities.
The meeting was held under the theme of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during which the event conveyed messages on DEI and sustainability to participants through expert lectures, pre-tours, post-tours, cultural experiences, and more.
The pre-tour, which included a visit to the iconic Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the post-tour that explored sustainable tourism practices in the Seoul area, garnered significant interest from participants. In particular, the tours showcased the diverse aspects of sustainable tourism in Seoul, with a focus on rediscovering the value of places through urban regeneration and preservation in areas such as Ikseon-dong, Seongsu-dong, and the Walkerhill Theatre, as well as activities such as hiking on Bukhansan Mountain.
A K-Content experience zone in the event lobby featured a variety of activities including Squid Game costume trials, writing one's name in Korean, and decorating fans, providing attendees with an opportunity to easily engage with Korean culture.
Ki-yon Kil, the President & CEO of the Seoul Tourism Organization, stated, “With the UIA Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting as a starting point, Seoul will do its utmost to enhance its status as the world's premier MICE city through cooperation with international organizations.”
The UIA is an international organization founded in 1907, which collects and analyzes relevant information to facilitate the efficient operation of international associations and organizations, as well as compiling records of international conferences and events.
