Daejeon Science Vice Mayor Kim Myung-soo delivered a speech on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda at the UN Headquarters in New York on the 27th and invited the UN General Assembly President and local government delegations around the world to the 2022 UCLG World Congress.
At the UN-HABITAT meeting in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016, local governments gathered at the UN to review and check the implementation of the New Urban Agenda five years after it was implemented by governments around the world.

During this period, about 60 people, including representatives of local governments around the world and representatives of international organizations related to local governments, attended the meeting to check the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and set future directions.
Daejeon Science Vice Mayor Kim Myung-soo, who served as a speaker, asked for attention to the 2022 UCLG World Congress, which will gather local governments' will and cooperation to provide public services using science and technology and implement the New Urban Agenda.
At the reception held after the World General Assembly of Local Governments, the South Korean Ambassador to the UN Cho Hyun attended and promoted to local government delegations and UN officials to participate in the 2022 UCLG World General Assembly.
Ambassador Cho Hyun said, "The role of not only the central government but also local governments, civic groups, and individuals is important for the implementation of the UN's joint agenda, such as the 2030 Sustainable Development (SDGs) and climate change response, and we expect active participation from local government leaders around the world."
In addition, Emilia UCLG, Secretary-General of the World Secretariat, added, "We hope that delegations from many cities, as well as from all cities, will meet in Daejeon in October."
On the 28th, local time, Deputy Mayor Kim Myung-soo and the UN delegation to Daejeon, as well as the UN Korean delegation, attended a high-level meeting on the New Urban Agenda.
The U.N. Representative of South Korea introduced the New Urban Agenda in Korea's central and local government planning using a green environment and digital technology for inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable urban development and submitted materials emphasizing the importance of cities and subordinate governments.
In particular, the 2022 Daejeon UCLG World Congress, which will be held in Daejeon in October this year, is expected to be attended by many local governments around the world to discuss strengthening partnerships to achieve sustainability goals, recovery from pandemics, and cooperation on sustainable development.
